The Truman Wealth Advisors Internship · Columbia, Missouri
We tell our clients they belong in the driver’s seat of their own financial life. It would be a little rich of us to then hire a student for a summer and hand them a stapler and a stack of envelopes.
So we don’t. Where clients agree to it, you will participate in their meetings. Not to perform. To hear how the conversation actually goes when a person is deciding what their money is for.
-
The first stretch is orientation and vocabulary. Our mission, our service model, and how a client is welcomed here. Retirement, investments, tax, estate, risk. Five conversations, and how they connect to each other. Compliance and confidentiality are not the boring part. They are the reason anyone trusts us with anything.
You will learn our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and planning software, build meeting agendas and meeting packets, review client files for completeness, and sit in on our internal investment and planning meetings.
What we are watching for: curiosity, thoughtful questions, attention to detail.
-
By midsummer you are contributing rather than shadowing. Research on real planning and investment questions. Gathering planning data alongside an advisor. Reviewing plans for updates. Analyzing portfolio reports. A client case study of your own.
You will present your findings to advisors, who will ask you follow-up questions. You will also document one thing this firm could be doing better. We mean that part.
-
The last stretch belongs to you. Every intern runs a project start to finish and presents it to firm leadership. A review of how we use our technology. A client education program. Research into a planning strategy our clients actually need.
You will leave here able to prepare a client meeting packet, read a basic financial plan, spot a planning opportunity, and explain how we invest and why.
Observer to contributor to owner, in about ninety days.
Is This You?
We hire for coachability and curiosity before knowledge. If you are a University of Missouri student who would rather be trusted with real work than protected from it, we should talk. Finance coursework helps. Wanting to build a career around people, and not only spreadsheets, helps more.
You will not be the only one learning. This is a boutique firm, so you will be working beside the advisors, not three floors away from them.
with the possibility of part-time work continuing through the following semesters.
